CheckOsVer – Check Operating System Version
Are you not sure what is the version of your operating system? Are you constantly asking yourself the question: “What OS version am I on?” An answer to this question could be provided by a piece of software. To be more precise, a Castle Software-developed application called CheckOsVer (I’m guessing that’s a shortened way of saying “Check OS Version”.
As a little side note, Castle Software can provide an answer to another pressing question: What is my IP address? If you need to know what your IP address is, Castle Software created a piece of software called ipAddress that does just that – it displays your current IP address and allows you to copy the address to the clipboard so you can paste it anywhere you want (like in an instant messaging window, or an email).
Getting back to CheckOsVer, there are several bits and pieces you are going to like about this piece of software. The first thing you are going to like is the lightweight download size. The application weighs in at some 250KB, meaning the download will complete in an blink, even if you’re on a terribly lousy internet connection. What about the installation process? Will it complete in a speedy manner as well? Here’s the other thing you are going to like: the application doesn’t have to be installed.
The fact that CheckOsVer doesn’t have to be installed also means that it is portable. You can stick the app on an USB stick for example and take it with you. Not sure what OS version your friend is on? Pop the USB stick in and run the application. Your dilemma will be cleared away in a matter of moments.
After launching the CheckOsVer.exe file (double click it, or select it and press Enter) a window will appear and will provide you with info on the following: operating system name, OS version, OS build number, Service Pack, Common Controls version. You can click the Copy Info to Clipboard to, well, copy the info to clipboard. Or you can click Close to shut down the app.
CheckOsVer is freeware, meaning you can use it for as long as you want without paying a dime. Speaking of which, the application should work without a problem on all versions of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system.
CheckOsVer is an extremely easy to use, free piece of software that tells you what operating system version you’re using.
